Whilst living in Phuket I would often venture out to nearby events and the like, the kind meant for Thai locals rather than the sordid mess that is Patong Beach. One of the stranger things I came across was a carnival game whereby locals would throw balls at targets in order to dunk trans women into giant buckets of water.
In Thailand it’s frowned upon to question the life choices of others, which may be why transgender women might seem so prevalent to those visiting the land of smiles. Despite public appearances of acceptance, the usage of trans women as targets of humiliation paints a slightly sinister picture suggesting underlying distaste which I felt the need to share.
