Backbeat, the word is on the street. The plan for the next two weeks is to be stone cold sober, after dropping an unaffordable amount on a lens. I can't swallow a liquid 100x more expensive than oil, (that limited resource from dinosaurs that people kill for) and feel good about myself. Visiting gigs and being around the fizzy nectar will still be on my agenda but like any alcoholic before me, I'm abstaining to prove I can do it.
This week has been a heavy week for music in Auckland. The below shots are from a night at Backbeat, a cool little bar located above a guitar shop with every wall covered in framed, signed guitars. Some I assume are worth some serious money, which is a shame because they all seem to be rusting away.
If any venue is intimidating for a musician it's one with credibility but fortunately Coridian smashed their set with their downbeat Nu-Metal Deftones'esq sound. Armed in Advance replaced Setting Fire To Stacy after the lead singer fell ill and showed the crowd why they were the first to be considered with a stellar performance. A band new to me; Silence the City bolted down the post-hardcore themed evening with some expected angst and meaty riffs.
